Ugh, Telstra.

So, Telstra fucked up, and extended my contract for a year - without my mum's permission (the contract is in my mum's name). The guy on the phone was really apologetic, but said that the only way we could get out of it was to pay $700 upfront, so he recommended just taking the phone upgrade. Mum puts me on the contract as an authorised person (meaning the contract was basically in my name, too). Mum checks that I'd be able to pick up the phone from the Geelong Telstra store, and is told it's fine, as long as I show them ID - any ID is fine, they specifically said the my medicare card, school ID, health care card, and bank card would be fine. Awesome!

So, I go to Telstra. Walk into the T-Life store. After being ignored for several minutes, this dude comes up to me

Him: Anything I can help you with?
Me: Hi, I was told I could pick up a phone, I'm authorised on my mum's account
Him: NO YOU CAN'T DO THAT
Me: But! I'm autho-
Him: NO, YOU CAN NOT DO THAT. SHE NEEDS TO SIGN FOR IT
Me: But the guy on the phone said -
Him: NO. SHE NEEDS TO SIGN FOR IT, OKAY?
Me: I'm authorised
Him: HOW DO I KNOW YOU'RE NOT TRYING TO STEAL A PHONE? YOU COULD BE ANYONE!
Me: I have ID!
Him: NO. SHE HAS TO SIGN FOR IT, COME BACK WITH HER. UNTIL THEN, I AM NOT LETTING YOU WALK OUT WITH A PHONE. YOU COULD BE A THIEF!

Keep in mind that he was shouting this, and right in my damn face. I've never been so embarrassed, I'm sure the other customers thought I was trying to steal something. I was nearly in tears by time I walked out. So, I go outside, and ring mum. I explain what happened, and she rings Telstra Corio. The girl from Telstra Corio is horrified, and told her to tell me to come there, and ask for her.

Funny, I got over there, and the girl was really nice, all she asked me to do was photocopy ID and sign some stuff, and ask mum to email them a copy of her driver's license. When I explained what had happened in Geelong, she was amazed. As she said - "Does he hate his job that much?!".

I'm just sad that I ended up hating the phone, so mum gets it now.

But really, Telstra wonder why they're losing customers? Oh hey, don't extend people's contract and employ douchebags

Have I ever offended you? If so, how did I offend you?

You should post this in your LJ. Because it could be enlightening.

I know I'm going to get crap for this...

but does anyone else think that the charity, To Write Love on Her Arms is really rather sketchy?

Okay, I've researched their income previously. They made x amount, let's call it $100,000 to make it even. Of that, only something like 25% was accounted for. The rest? Completely unaccounted for. Most charities release their financial statements. Don't you find it a little odd that we don't know where 75% of all money given to them goes? The 75% would be "administrative costs", aka "paying the people that work there".

Of that 25%, some of it goes to an extremely sketchy charity called Mercy Ministries. You might know them as the anti-gay, pro-life, pile of crap charity that believes that people can be made straight. At their homes, they don't allow close contact between women because of the risk of lesbianism! Isn't that nice, donating to a charity which encourages a belief that makes a lot of teens suicidal? MM also believes in the power of exorcism. Australians may remember them as the charity that made girls entering the program sign their Centrelink payments over to them, and gave the girls no therapy but prayer. Do you really want to support this charity? TWLOHA is effectively endorsing the belief that prayer cures depression, and that being gay is something one chooses.

They're owned by Fireproof Ministries. Y'know, the same guys who gave you XXXChurch.com? You know, selling out Jesus for the moneys?

They're also (financially) associated with Teen Mania Ministries, which has been described as racist, women hating and hateful in general. The dude who runs it, Ron Luce also runs the Battle Cry Campaign. The BCC's purpose is to "...ensure that Christianity survives in America by redefining society". Read their Wiki. Tell me that isn't a stumble away from a cult. Yeah, once again, do you want your money to support this?

Sure, they offer hope. But, you know, that extra 75% would be way better spent on actually helping people, as opposed to selling fugly tshirts and supporting homophobia. I find it sick they've turned depression and addiction into a damn fashion statement.

When they can prove to me that they do anything but sell shirts and donate to two or three decent charities and one giant pile of arse, I'll believe that they're a real charity.

(Also, Jamie gets very defensive whenever someone dares to speak out against TWLOHA. Personally, I find that rather sus)

Because I've realised that my lj is probably horribly confusing to people who don't know me!

Okay, first up. I'm Renee, I'm 18, I live in a place called Geelong which is on the Victorian coast, which is in Australia. I'm really very Australian. For example, I can explain the differences between AFL and NRL (one sucks, one doesn't), and I know that no true Australian would throw a shrimp on the barbie.

I live in a tiny house with my friend Steph (who I've known since she ripped off my answers in history when I was 14), my spoilt rotten black kitty, Copie (short for Lady Copie C. Banana), and a bird named Speckles, who is incredibly noisy. Also sharing the land with us is Bitch out the Back, who rents a unit attached to our house. She's a crazy bitch and I'll likely rant about her crazy bitchness. I like to annoy her in slight ways, because I'm awesome like that. I'd consider my life complete if I had a pet penguin.

My mama lives up in Sydney, and I don't talk to her as often as a good daughter should. I have two older half-brothers who I refuse to talk to, because they suck hardcore. I also have a half-sister who has a few kids, but we don't keep in contact. My father died when I was 12 from a heart attack. Don't bother adding me if you're going to post about how "OMG I WISH MAH DAD WUD DIE!!!! THEY DON'T LET ME DO WHAT I WANT!", because seriously, if you act like that, you can go jump. It's offensive and makes you look like a dick.

I am way too opinionated. I have an opinion on everything, and I'm not afraid to speak my mind. As a general idea, I'm on the liberal side - that's liberal, not Liberal. Big difference. I'm pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-equality, and anti-racism. I find 90% of pro-life/anti-gay rights arguments fucking ridiculous.

My favourite movies are: Donnie Darko, RENT, Looking for Alibrandi, Cry_Wolf, Nightmare on Elm Street, Schindler's List, Repo! the Genetic Opera, and a million others.

My favourite tv shows are: Supernatural, Criminal Minds, Dexter, Hex, and Grey's Anatomy. I'm also a sucker for the original Degrassi. I've been known to drop everything to watch the new Supernatural.

I listen to way too much music to list - to give you a rough idea, my iTunes has 1164 artists listed. The only stuff I don't listen to is black/death metal, screamo, and Jesus rock. My favourite artists are Fall Out Boy, Butch Walker, The Academy Is..., Cobra Starship, Motorhead, Cold Chisel, and AC/DC. I have a raging hate-on for The All American Rejects and Delta Goodrem. It's deep seated but completely justified.

So, you know how people are trying to get rid of gay rights? Actually, I think they're trying to get rid of gays full stop, but that's a whole 'nother post. Either way, the pro-gay rights side needs all the help they can get!

So, with some help from various anti-gay rights pages*, I've compiled a list of businesses that support gay rights! If you can, try and buy stuff from these businesses, and ignore the ones that treat people as second class citizens. Hell, go on the yay sites and send supportive emails to them. This list is nowhere near exhaustive, though

* Thanks, guys! Couldn't have done it without you. You're finally useful. However, I think you'd object to how I'm using you....

Okay, here's the thing.

I have enough money in my Paypal account to buy 2 months of paid time for someone. I don't know who to give it to, though.

So, suggest a person/community who I should buy some time for. I know it's not much, but...small things are cool, right? Just make it someone who doesn't have a paid account already. It does't matter if I know them or not, or anything.
